There are lots of ways to point a domain to an alternative domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you have set up a site through some on-line service that provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you are going to achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and functioning email addresses with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often additional configuration may be required with the other company.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

In case you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you wish to create a CNAME record, it will take you just a few clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted inside your account through the Hepsia CP offered with each plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, choosing the type, that will be CNAME in this case, entering the actual record value and saving the change. If you've never added this type of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have built a website via another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, such as Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks in your Control Panel.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record easily. In case you want to create a private URL for your emails, to redirect a domain to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to require more than 3 clicks to set up this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so once you are there, all that you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then input the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video inside the Control Panel regarding how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
